Extended Policies and Unwritten Practices: Mechanisms of Digital Repression in Myanmar Since the 2021 Coup

- Led the research focusing on digital authoritarianism and its impact on freedom of expression. - Conducted qualitative interviews with activists, policymakers, and digital rights experts, and designed and implemented quantitative surveys targeting TikTok and Telegram users in Myanmar. - Analyzed formal policies, informal practices, and platform dynamics to assess effects on information flows, online activism, and resistance to censorship. - Collaborated with international stakeholders and NGOs to align research with broader human rights and digital freedom initiatives. - Produced in-depth policy analyses, op-ed articles, and a comprehensive policy report to inform international debates on digital rights and strategies to counter digital repression.

- Conducted comprehensive research on sources, methods, and human rights impacts of disinformation in Myanmar for the Wikimedia Foundation Human Rights Team. - Collaborated with editors and subject-matter experts to verify and correct false information on Wikimedia platforms related to Myanmar, supporting content integrity and human rights standards. - Engaged with local and international communities to raise awareness about disinformation and its human rights implications, providing training and resources on identifying and combating false information. - Prepared detailed reports and documentation on disinformation trends, key challenges, and the effectiveness of mitigation strategies, contributing to Wikimedia’s broader human rights advocacy efforts. - Contributed to human rights–focused risk assessments for regional Wikimedia events, identifying potential risks and informing safer planning and implementation.

-Led a yearlong digital literacy program as Project Lead, coordinating with the Embassy of the United States in Myanmar and Geek Girls team members to empower women nationwide. -Oversaw planning, execution, and monitoring of program activities to ensure impactful delivery of digital literacy training to women from diverse socio‑economic backgrounds. -Managed stakeholder relationships and communication with supporting organizations to align program objectives, expectations, and outcomes. -Directed outreach and participant engagement efforts to extend digital literacy resources to over 1,000 women across 15 different regions. - Enabled participants to gain essential digital skills, supporting their increased participation in social discourse, economic opportunities, and civic engagement.
